I am confident you will love your Shellac manicure and for them to last up to 14+ days as long as you give them a little love and care during that time.
Shellac is pretty much indestructible when it comes to wear and tear of normal daily life, however it is not completely indestructible and I hope you will partner me in helping to protect your Shellac Manicure. Here are some steps you can take to increase the longevity of your Shellac manicure |
Use Cuticle Oil |
I recommend that you apply nail & cuticle oil twice a day (especially before bed) as it will substantially prolong the life of your Shellac and keep your natural nails and the skin surrounding them healthy, moisturized and flexible.
I highly recommend CND Solar Oil which has been formulated to be used with Shellac. I retail at £3.95 for a 3.7ml bottle or £13 for a 15ml bottle |
Wear Gloves |
Normal household jobs such as washing up, cleaning and gardening can be tough on our hands and nails. I recommend that you try to wear household gloves to protect your nails from harsh chemicals and wear and tear. This really does help make your Shellac last the way it is designed to!
|
Lotions & Potions |
During the summer months, or on a sun holiday, please be careful when using sun creams or insect repellent solutions as many of these products contain solvent oils which will cause major damage to the Shellac colour coat. Its always best to wash your hands after using these products. Please also be aware of heavy emollients such as E45 and eczema creams as these often contain paraffin which can disrupt the longevity of your Shellac manicure.
|
Your Nails Are Not Tools |
Try to avoid using your nails as tools to open cans, packaging etc, also avoid picking at things with them and putting excess stress on your nails, remember your nails are jewels not tools!
|
Swimming |
Some of the more delicate Shellac colours can fade a little if exposed to chlorinated water followed by excessive sun as chlorine is a bleach and sun intensifies the bleaching action. Dry your hands and nails after swimming and before sunbathing to minimize any colour fading. Also be careful in swimming pools as the bottom of the pools tend to scrape on toes!
|
Picking & Peeling |
Please try not to pick, bite, cut or file at your nails as this will make Shellac weak and could likely damage your natural nails. In the unlikely event that your Shellac has peeled or chipped, please make an appointment to see me so it can be repaired. Resist the urge to peel and pick chips as this might remove a couple of layers of your natural nail with it too. Please note that all repairs are chargeable.
|
Heat |
Try to avoid intense heat (especially for the 1st 24hrs) such as saunas, sunbeds and especially that swoosh of heat from ovens being opened, this can cause Shellac to lift.
